So, you are thinking of vacationing in Ireland this Fall or Winter? And wondering what to do? Well, apart from a whole range of attractions from breweries to castles, museums and galleries, there are lots of great festivals taking place all around the country and here are some of my top picks!
The Connemara Four Seasons Autumn Walking Festival
Embrace Fall and take part in one of the many walking festivals happening around this time. The Connemara Four Seasons Autumn Walking Tour is the perfect tour to explore Connemara thanks to your guides who will provide you with an unique insight into the rich cultural and historic heritage of one of the most beautiful part of Ireland. This event consists of two day walking through Connemara and the walks are suitable for beginners as well as for the advanced, all you need is a good pair of walking boots!
Guinness Cork Jazz Festival
25th- 28th October
Cork will once again this year become Europe’s Jazz capital for one weekend. Each year, the festival brings together the best international and Irish jazz artists to play in some of Cork’s most iconic places such as Cork Opera House and The Everyman Theater. The festival attracts visitors from all around the world to enjoy non-stop jazz and jazz related music during 3 days in more than 80 pubs and clubs in Cork. This year, headliners include Efterklang, Chic & Nile Rodgers, Soul II Soul, Bilal and Courtney Pine.
Ennis Trad Festival
7th – 11th November
Now in its 20th year, this wonderful festival showcases the very best of Irish traditional music, dance and song. Over 5 days, numerous concerts and sessions are held to celebrate Irish music at its best! Informal - where musicians and the public mingle and chat over songs and music, if you love Irish music and want to be infused with the Celtic beat – get on over to Clare for this fun filled festival!
SUBTITLE European Film Festival
25th November – 1st December
In November, attend a great film festival: the SUBTITLE European Film Festival in Kilkenny that takes place for the second year. It is a unique opportunity to watch some of Europe’s most popular films that can’t be seen at the multiplexes. The aim of the festival is to bring together some of the best European films to make them accessible for everybody. You also have the opportunity to meet with the actors and directors for a question and answer session! How cool is that?
NYE Festival Dublin
29th – 31st December
This fantastic 3 day event culminates in the Countdown Concert which is held just opposite Trinity College. The atmosphere is electric and with some great musicians both nationally and internationally known this really should not be missed! This year Madness and Ryan Sheridan have been announced to play and I am sure that there will be many more to come! I just love the 3D projections on Trinity College where a huge clock holds pride of place waiting midnight to strike. Tickets are on sale now so book one of the best New Year Eve parties you’ll ever attend in the city that knows how to party!
