Sunday 11th December 2011 - The GUINNESS STOREHOUSE, Ireland’s number one international visitor attraction, announced details of a 10 million euro, 3 year re-investment plan which will commence in the New Year. Once completed, the new developments will further enhance the seven storey GUINNESS experience and future proof the attraction to accommodate a projected growth in visitor numbers in the coming years.
The Storehouse which is located in the heart of St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin City
, first opened its doors in 2000 and welcomes close to 1 million visitors each year from 25 countries. This summer, the attraction recorded the busiest July and August on record and predicts to finish 2011 with a 7% growth in numbers.
Commenting on the investment, Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar said: ‘The Guinness Storehouse is a major tourism success story, and a premier Irish tourist attraction. In these difficult times, it’s great to see plans for such a significant re-investment in the facility. This investment will ensure that the Storehouse continues to play such an important role in Irish tourism in the future’.
“The capacity of the GUINNESS STOREHOUSE building is 1.2million per year”, commented Managing Director, Paul Carty. “If we return to the growth levels we were achieving pre-global recession, we will reach our capacity within the next two years. Therefore, we’ve committed to a 3 year investment plan to ‘future proof’ the building and enhance the overall visitor experience”.
Phase one of the GUINNESS STOREHOUSE 3-year plan will focus on the development of Level 4 in the building which will include a new GUINNESS Academy and bespoke digital experience. The project will commence in January and during the construction phase it is anticipated that up to 90 people will be employed. As a result of the investment in 2012 and subsequent years, the GUINNESS STOREHOUSE experience will be enhanced and it is likely a number of full and part-time positions will be created.
