With Winter peaking in Ireland at the moment, sharp winds sting our faces and dustings of snow blanket our streets. One of our favourite things to do at this time of the year is check out the culture scene. There are fabulous museums, galleries and theatres throughout the island. Here are a few we love to visit:

The National Gallery in Dublin City was established in 1864, and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2014. It is located in the heart of Georgian Dublin, on Merrion Square West, and is a must visit for lovers of art. Probably the most famous painting housed in the gallery is ‘The Taking of Christ’, by Caravaggio, one of the most widely-known renaissance masterpieces.

Another heavyweight of culture and history, mostly located in Dublin City again, is the National Museum of Ireland. It comprises the Archaeology Museum at Kildare Street, Dublin City, the Decorative Arts & History Museum at Collins Barracks, Dublin City, the Natural History Museum at Merrion Street, Dublin City and the Country Life Museum at Castlebar, County Mayo. Days upon days of discovery could be spent at the various branches of the National Museum, so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to take it all in.

On the opposite side of Ireland, you’ll find the Galway City Museum, which presents history from the Western perspective of Galway City and County. Galway is a must-visit destination when travelling in Ireland, and we’re sure it’ll be on your list. To really get under the skin of Galway, there is no better place for you. It is a fascinating place with a colourful history. For more information on Galway City Museum, check out their official website here.

Not forgetting, of course, the wonderful culture sites in Northern Ireland, we would recommend a trip to the Lyric Theatre in Belfast to catch a show. The theatre itself is a stunning piece of architecture you’ll be sure to admire, but it’s mainly what happens on the inside that we’re concerned with. A famous Belfast City spot to enjoy a play or some live music, check out the website for listings and tickets here.

Ireland truly is the land for all seasons, with lots to see and do whenever you find yourself on her shores. Contact us today and take the first step towards making your dream trip to Ireland a reality.
