Rock of Cashel, County Tipperary
The Rock of Cashel (Carraig Phádraig), more formally known as St. Patrick’s Rock is reputedly the site where a conversation ensued between Aenghus-King of Munster and St. Patrick in the 5th Century AD.
For a long time before the Norman invasion, The Rock of Cashel was the seat of the High Kings of Munster; however there is little evidence of their time there that can be found in the structure.The majority of the buildings, which currently make up the site date back to the 12th and 13th Centuries. They largely represent a mix of Hiberno-Romanesque and Germanic influences in their architecture.
This spectacular group of medieval buildings include a 12th Century round tower, a high cross, a Romanesque Chapel, 13th Century Gothic cathedral, 15th Century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral. Visitor to the Rock of Cashel can enjoy a variety of audio visual shows and exhibitions.
