Powerscourt Townhouse Centre is a magnificent Georgian building on South William Street just beside Grafton Streeton the south-side of Dublin. Built as a townhouse for the Viscount Powerscourt in 1774 who also had a country retreat in Wicklow of the same name, today it houses a myriad of specialised shops.

The house was built primarily as a place in which to entertain guests during the months parliament ran, and the best craftsmen and artists of the day were called in to ensure this house both dazzled and amazed its guests. Built with granite from the estate in Wicklow and designed in the rococo style on the stairs and landing, and with a grand mahogany staircase and plasterwork by the renowned Michael Stapleton it certainly met all expectations.

Today, many of the original features can still be viewed as you work around the 72 boutiques, antique shops, galleries and cafes which have taken up residence. The glass domed area of the centre is a popular meeting place for the locals. This is a unique shopping centre and a must see in your tour of Dublin!
