Gap of Dunloe, County Kerry
Created by glacial movements over two million years ago the Gap of Dunloe is one of Europe’s best examples of a glaciated valley.
Easily accessible from Killarney, the Gap is set amid the beautiful Killarney National Park. This is an ideal stop for active visitors with over 10km of amazing walkways. The trails available vary in difficulty for both novice and experienced walkers.
The area can also be explored using the well laid surfaced tracks particularly around the Muckross, Knockreer and Ross Island areas. Bikes can be rented in Killarney and provides a great way to view the picturesque surroundings.
For those looking for something a little different, horse drawn cars and boat trips can take you around the area and show you all of the great views.
The Gap is generally worth a full day out and is an ideal way to work up an appetite before heading back into Killarney for a nice evening meal.
