Scotland - Inveraray Castle
Inveraray Castle is located in western Scotland in the county of Argyll and stands on the shores of Loch Fyne. The present structure dates from the 18th century although a castle has stood on the site since the 15th century. A fire in the 1877 resulted in the third floor and corner towers being added – resulting in a rather fairy-talesque appearance. It has been home to the Duke of Argyll, Head of the Campbell Clan since the 15th century.
There is much to see and do on the state with its 3 floors of rooms and exhibitions. Learn all about the Campbell Clan once the most powerful in Scotland in the dedicated Clan Room. Marvel at the exquisite decoration and chandeliers in the State Dining Room and enjoy the North West Hall which holds a collection of costumes worn by the family down through the centuries.
There is a beautiful coffee and gift shop as well and some marvellous walks around the estate. Well run and proud of its heritage and history Inveraray is a prize amongst castle and a most memorable visit.
