The Beara Peninsula is located on the south-west coast of Ireland, between Kenmare Bay in County Kerry and Bantry Bay in County Cork. Named after a Spanish princess the peninsula offers a wide range of untamed nature, magical coastlines and colorful villages.

The so called "Ring of Beara" is a 195 km long trail leading visitors all around the peninsula's beautiful scenery, including a large concentration of historical and archaeological sites en route. This area is especially popular amongst walkers and cyclists and provides a great opportunity to discover the greens of the Irish landscape and enjoy the charm of the numerous small fishing villages found on the peninsula. See ourblog for some more infos on driving Beara.

Some of the highlights of the Beara Peninsula include the Mare's Tail Ireland’s highest waterfall found in the Hungry Hills in Adrigole. Garnish Island located just in the harbor of Glengarriff, features some of Ireland's most beautiful gardens. Further down to the south is Castletownbere the site of the largest whitefish port in Ireland. Take a stroll along the pier to watch the local fishing fleet bring in their fresh catches and perhaps even sample some of their offerings in the local eateries!

The village of Bearhaven offers a wide range of all water-sports, from sea angling to windsurfing. On the way around the peninsula one might take the ferry across Bantry Bay to visit Bere Island or have a break on one of Ireland’s best beaches in Allihies. Towards the bottom of Beara Peninsula is Dursey Island, a walker's paradise. In order to get over to Dursey visitors, locals and animals take a trip on Ireland's sole cable car! Certainly worth a visit to!

While traveling the peninsula make sure you cross the Healy Pass - views from up those mountains are just breath-taking!
