Castle Ward is an 18th century period house which is set amidst some 820 acres overlooking Strangford Lough. Included in this vast estate which is now owned by the National Trust are some wonderful landscaped gardens, a saw mill, corn mill, fortified tower house and a Victorian Laundry.

Castle Ward was home to the Ward family from around 1570 and there were numerous houses/castles built and modified on the grounds during this time. However, the structure you see today dates from the 1760s – and what a building it is! It is a heady mix of different architectural types – Palladian and Georgian – and it is this mix which gives Castle Ward an unique, imposing but ultimately handsome facade.

Take a tour of the house and learn all about the fascinating Ward family, then relax in the gardens or walk or cycle though this very beautiful estate. Perhaps even picnic in one of the secluded spots in the grounds.
There is a restaurant on site for a well-deserved coffee after all your exertions so you can sit back and dream about the history and characters who once roamed the grounds.

And if Games of Thrones is your thing, then take a wander down to the Georgian farmyard where which transformed into Winterfell - home of the Starks in Series 1!
