Ballycastle is a rural seaside town in County Antrim surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. So stunning in fact that it has been used as a shooting location for many movies and series like Game of Thrones. Ballycastle's name comes from the Irish “Baile an Chaistil” translating into “Town of the Castle”. Unfortunately there are no remains of the Castle, but there are so many other attractions in Ballycastle that you will not be bored!

This picturesque town is located centrally on the Causeway Coast Route, which makes it a perfect base to discover the many attractions this scenic route has to offer. Explore the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, discover the famous Glens of Antrim or tour the Buschmills Distillery or many of the other wonderful attractions. A Ferry Service connects Ballycastle with the only inhabited offshore Island of Northern Ireland, Rathlin Island. During the summer two vessels perform up to 10 sailings in each direction.

A famous fair takes place in Ballycastle every year on the Last Monday and Tuesday of August, the Auld Lammas Fair. The Fair has been running for nearly 400 years now and traditionally livestock is being sold here. It is also an excellent chance to taste traditional food like yellowman and dulse.

Ballycaste is also home to a famous Blue Flag beach, the Ballycastle Beach. Nearly 1.2 km long and only 5 min away from the town centre it is understandable why is has become a popular destination in summer. Right behind the Beach is the renowned Ballycastle Golf Club which offers a uniquely designed 18th hole course.

Next to the beach near the river is also a brilliant white statue of fours swans that plays a tribute to the famous Irish Legend “The Children of Lir”. Cursed into the body of swans the four siblings were forced to spend a part of their live, 300 years, at the Sea of Moyle. Local Legends has it that they spend their time in the area between Ballycastle and Rathlin Island, therefore the gorgeous monument in Ballycastle.
