The Island Golf Club in North County Dublin is a unique championship links course. It is located less than 30 minutes out from the City Centre but still enjoys a peaceful setting and is bordered by the sea on three sides.

Founded in 1890, it is constantly rated among the top courses in Ireland. Until 1973 the course was accessible only by boat from across the estuary at Malahide, just north of Portmarnock. Martin Hawtree however, has recently made course design changes ensuring that its true nature and character are enhanced.

For golfers skilful, or fortunate, enough to confine their ball to the fairway, thereby missing out on The Island's impressive flora, there will be compensation, to some degree, by the sights and sounds of its birds. These include the visually striking Stonechats, and chirpy, cheerful, even noisy, Skylarks, as well as Meadow pipits and a variety of seabirds.

Throughout its history The Island has valued and protected its natural heritage, and given importance to it by the pride of place occupied by the Skylark on the Club's crest. A round of golf on The Island Links is not just an exciting and exhilarating golfing experience, but an opportunity to renew and refresh associations with the wonderful world of nature.

The modern era of the Island Golf Club was shaped in 1952 when the Syndicate of the day handed over their entire interest in the Club to the existing annual ticket holders who were the new members.

Since then Golfing at The Island Golf Club has progressed, through entering inter club competitions, building up the membership, redesign of the course and the continuous improvement of facilities on the course and in the clubhouse. The Golf Club has hosted the Irish Ladies Close Championship(1990), the Irish Close Championship(1997) and the Irish P.G.A. tournament for top professionals(1999).

Other national competitions, provincial and inter provincial competitions for both men and ladies have been played here. All who have taken part have been generous in their praise for the quality of the links, the organisation and the generosity and cooperation of the membership. This truly unique course is the prefect way to spend your last day of golf in Ireland, offering the perfect blend of challenging course design along with a stunning coastal setting.
