Howth (the pronunciation rhymes with both), is a fishing and yachting port, and popular suburban resort on the north side of Howth Head, 15km (9½ miles north-east of the Dublin City Centre).

ts attractions are easily appreciated, particularly at the coast. The walk to Howth Head offers fine views of Dublin Bay and the Wicklow Mountains or Boyne Valley beyond. From the harbour to Howth Head, there’s something for every level of walker in this fishing village.In the bay is the rocky bird sanctuary and monastic island of Ireland's, to which boat trips may be taken in summer. Cliff paths lead around the coastline, through Howth village and its ruined abbey, and past Baily Lighthouse.

The 15th-century Howth Castle & Groundsis inland, partly ruinous, but with fine rhododendron gardens. A small, but impressive, A traditional pub in Howth transport museum can be visited near the DART railway station, featuring Howth's famous open-topped tram. Howth's pubs, hotels and fish restaurants make it a pleasant outing from Dublin.

Seafood, of course, takes centre stage in the many pubs and restaurants of Howth. Try The Brass Monkey for seafood tapas and wine, or head to the nearby Oar House Fish Restaurant, where food is so fresh, it’s still swimming in a glass tank when you arrive!

Conveniently located beside the DART station, Howth Market is home to an array of Irish crafts, delicate handmade jewellery, and vintage antiques; perfect for gift shopping. While you’re there, be sure to sample the wide selection of organic foods on offer, like olives, cheeses, nuts and of course, delicious chocolate and cupcakes. Or if you’re feeling peckish grab a burger, stir-fry or gooey pastrami melt sandwich for a picnic.
